Vaccinations

Vaccinations for Dogs & Cats in Elkins Park

Protect Your Pets from Avoidable Illness & Disease

Vaccinations are a critical part of preventative care for your pet. They protect our pets from many diseases, including rabies, distemper, and Lyme disease. Each dog and cat is different, so the veterinarians at Elkins Park Veterinary Hospital develop custom vaccination plans for each pet. When you bring your pet into our office, we’ll get to know more about them and their history and will be able to determine which vaccinations they need and how often they will be administered.

Elkins Park Veterinary Hospital is backed by over 35 years of experience and offers a team that is extensively knowledgeable. We care deeply about each of our patients and want to make sure they are protected from avoidable diseases.

Vaccines we offer our pet patients:

  • Dog Vaccinations

All dogs must be vaccinated for rabies as required by Pennsylvania state law. We also vaccinate all dogs in our practice for distemper and parvo. Because Eastern Pennsylvania has one of the highest rates of Lyme disease in the United States, we also vaccinate for it. Finally, if your pet goes to the groomer, kennel, or obedience classes, we may recommend the kennel cough and canine flu vaccines for your dog.

  • Cats Vaccinations

All cats in our practice are also vaccinated for upper respiratory disease viruses. Our veterinarians will discuss with you if your cat also requires the feline leukemia vaccine.

Each patient is different and will sometimes have unique needs, depending on their age and lifestyle. Our vets will thoroughly review their history and other factors prior to administering any vaccinations.

Why Vaccinations are Essential

Vaccinations play a crucial role in safeguarding your pet against a wide range of preventable diseases, ensuring a longer and healthier life. Our team of experienced veterinarians understands the importance of vaccination in maintaining your pet's immunity and preventing the spread of contagious illnesses within the community.

Tailored Vaccination Plans

At Elkins Park Veterinary Hospital & Boarding Kennel, we recognize that every pet is unique, and their vaccination needs may vary based on factors such as age, lifestyle, and medical history. That's why we offer personalized vaccination plans designed to provide optimal protection for your pet while minimizing any potential risks or adverse reactions.

Vaccines Also Protect Your Family

Vaccinations do more than just protect your dog or cat from illness and disease. They also protect everyone around them. If your pet doesn’t get vaccinated, the possibility remains that they could get sick and transmit that illness to their human parents. There are various diseases that pets can pass on to their owners, including rabies, but many of them are preventable with a simple vaccination. Our Elkins Park veterinarians can further discuss these risks with you when you come in for an appointment.

Part of a Wellness Routine

At Elkins Park Veterinary Hospital, we believe that routine care is the best course of action for every pet parent. Vaccinations are a crucial part of this routine care. When dogs and cats are young, there are certain vaccines that are administered once a year. Our vets will keep track of your pet’s vaccination schedule, and a great time to have these taken care of is during your routine wellness visit. In addition to the vaccinations, we’ll check your pet from head to tail for a variety of other issues and address any concerns you may have.
